The Transcaucasus Region
Edmond de Rothschild had to travel across the Transcaucasus region to reach Baku. He would arrive by yacht at the Georgian port of Poti as that was where he was able to pick up a passenger train towards Tbilisi. From Tbilisi he would be able to take a passenger train into Azerbaijan but not before 1883.
